Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena

Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, elected as the 8th Rector of the University for Peace (UPEACE) in 2013, secured a second term in 2018. With a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Utrecht (Netherlands) and an M.S. from FLACSO, his expertise spans international relations, human security, Latin American political systems, negotiations, and international security and defense. He’s held significant roles like Secretary-General of FLACSO and Director of FLACSO Chile. His teaching engagements include Stanford University, National University of Costa Rica, and the Andres Bello Diplomatic Academy. He’s on the editorial boards of various academic journals and has received accolades such as the Malinalli Prize and honors from Costa Rica, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic for his integration efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean. Additionally, he’s authored numerous books and provided consultancy for international agencies and regional governments.
El Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, elegido 8º Rector de la Universidad para la Paz (UPEACE) en 2013, obtuvo un segundo mandato en 2018. Doctor en Ciencias Políticas por la Universidad de Utrecht (Holanda) y Magíster por FLACSO, su experiencia abarca las relaciones internacionales, la seguridad humana, los sistemas políticos latinoamericanos, las negociaciones y la seguridad y defensa internacional. Ha desempeñado cargos importantes como Secretario General de FLACSO y Director de FLACSO Chile. Ha impartido clases en la Universidad de Stanford, la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica y la Academia Diplomática Andrés Bello. Forma parte de los consejos editoriales de varias revistas académicas y ha recibido galardones como el Premio Malinalli y distinciones de Costa Rica, Paraguay y la República Dominicana por sus esfuerzos de integración en América Latina y el Caribe. Además, es autor de numerosos libros y ha prestado asesoramiento a organismos internacionales y gobiernos regionales.
Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo

Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo, currently Vice Rector at UPEACE, is a distinguished Professor of International Law at Universidad Central de Venezuela, where he has taught since 1998. His extensive academic career includes roles such as Fulbright Visiting Professor at American University’s Washington College of Law, Professor of Humanitarian International Law at various Colombian universities, and Professor at Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio in Madrid. He brings practical experience as Jurist to the International Committee of the Red Cross and as a former member of the Venezuelan Foreign Service, focusing on border affairs and cooperation programs. Dr. Sainz-Borgo holds a Law Degree, a Master’s, and a Doctorate (Cum Laude) from Universidad Central de Venezuela, along with a Master’s Degree from Oxford University. He has authored four books and numerous articles on international law and relations.
El Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo, actualmente Vicerrector de la UPEACE, es un distinguido Profesor de Derecho Internacional en la Universidad Central de Venezuela, donde ha enseñado desde 1998. Su extensa carrera académica incluye cargos como el de Profesor Visitante Fulbright en el Washington College of Law de la American University, Profesor de Derecho Internacional Humanitario en varias universidades colombianas y Profesor en la Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio de Madrid. Aporta experiencia práctica como Jurista del Comité Internacional de la Cruz Roja y como antiguo miembro del Servicio Exterior de Venezuela, centrado en asuntos fronterizos y programas de cooperación. El Dr. Sainz-Borgo es Licenciado en Derecho, Máster y Doctor (Cum Laude) por la Universidad Central de Venezuela, además de Máster por la Universidad de Oxford. Es autor de cuatro libros y numerosos artículos sobre derecho y relaciones internacionales.
